I’m not going to go through the alphabet and give you 26 different words that have relevance to sales. I’m talking about what many people consider a golden rule in sales…ABC or Always Be Closing. I think it’s about time that we added an amendment to the rule.
I’ve watched Glengarry Glen Ross, the source of the acronym, many times. The first of which I actually had it given to me as a homework assignment at a sales training course. If you haven’t seen it yet, I would definitely recommend watching it.
It was in this movie that I first learned of the ABC rule and for whatever reason, it always stuck with me after that.
Ultimately your goal in any sales approach is to get to the close.
I feel like this is such a cut and dry way of looking at sales that it leaves out my favorite part of the sales process…THE PROCESS!
I love sales. I love the into, I love the banter, I can’t get enough objections, I quietly celebrate when I find the hot button, and then comes the best part…I could high-five an entire arena full of people when I close a sale!
That being said, with no disrespect to the movie, I’m changing the rules. ABC from this day forward will now stand for “Always Be Connecting”. People buy from those that they like, no and trust. If you aren’t connecting, you aren’t closing…period.
Whether you are in telephone sales, social media, or any other form of sales, the same rule applies.
The more I think about it, the more relevant this idea becomes.
Whether you are in telephone sales, social media marketing, network marketing, retail, etc…make an effort daily to truly connect with people and the sales will come.
